Confirmed: Nigeria-eligible left-back departs Blackburn Rovers for Charlton Athletic

With a statement on their official website, EFL League One club Charlton Athletic have announced the signing of former England youth international of Nigerian descent Tayo Edun for an undisclosed fee.

By signing a two-year contract with The Addicks with the option of a third year, the versatile left-back has ended his association with Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers.

Although Edun is provisionally cap-tied to his country of birth, England, having played competitive games for their U17 and U19 teams, he remains eligible to represent the Super Eagles at international level.

The 25-year-old has decided to move on to pastures new after falling out of favour at Blackburn Rovers, for whom he made four starts in all competitions last season.

He has played in the League One before, making 51 appearances for Lincoln City in which he directly participated in ten goals (2 goals, 8 assists).

In his first words as a player of Charlton Athletic, Edun said :"I’m here to compete, so I'm looking forward to getting in and meeting the boys as soon as possible.

"They will help me find my feet and then obviously together we can all push on. It's really positive and I'm just looking forward to getting going".

A European U19 champion with England in  2017, Edun is Charlton Athletic's fifth summer signing, after Harry Isted, Lloyd Jones, Alfie May and Panutche Camará.

He links up with Mandela Egbo, Deji Elerewe and Chuks Aneke at the Valley.
