Napoli provide injury update on Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen
Published: August 09, 2023
Napoli have provided an update on Victor Osimhen following the injury sustained by the Nigeria international during Tuesday's workout.
The Parthenopeans players trained at the Teofilo Patini Stadium in Castel di Sangro on Wednesday but Osimhen was not involved in the session due to an ankle-related injury.
The 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup top scorer left training prematurely on Tuesday due to a sprain to his right ankle after coming off worse in a clash with new signing Nathan during a practice match.
In their training report today, Napoli informed via their official website that Osimhen was receiving treatment as his teammates sweated it on the pitch.
Winner of the Capocannoniere award for the 2022-2023 season, his injury problems have surfaced again, few days after he recovered from an adductor problem, which made him miss the club's most recent friendly against Augsburg.
Of the five matches played by Napoli in preparation for the defence of their Serie A title, Osimhen has been involved in only two as he sat out the games with Anaune, Girona and Augsburg.
The 24-year-old played the entirety of the second half against SPAL and scored two goals in sixty minutes of action against Turkish club Hatayspor.
Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal are interested in signing Osimhen this summer after missing out on Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi, who preferred a move to Inter Miami in Major League Soccer.
