Published: August 28, 2023
Victor Boniface set a club record in Bayer Leverkusen's 3-0 rout of Borussia Monchengladbach at Stadion im Borussia-Park on Saturday evening, a game corresponding to the second round of matches in the German Bundesliga.
The Nigerian striker has had a fine start to his career at Bayer Leverkusen with three goals and an assist in three appearances across all competitions.
According to celebrated German sports magazine Kicker, Boniface registered eleven shots on target against Borussia Monchengladbach, and it's a record in a single game for a Bayer Leverkusen player.
From his eleven shots played, four were on target with two ending up in the back of the net.
Boniface finished off a lovely team goal in the 18th minute when he headed in a delivery from Alejandro Grimaldo.
Bayer Leverkusen's third goal arrived just under ten minutes after the restart courtesy of the Nigerian, who slotted home from close range after a lovely weighted pass from Florian Wirtz.
Apart from his brace, Boniface was too hot to handle for the Borussia Monchengladbach defenders.
The summer signing from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise got a standing ovation from the traveling fans as he made way for Gustavo Puerta in the 88th minute.
