Real Madrid include left-footed centre-back of Nigerian descent in Champions League squad
Published: September 12, 2023
Real Madrid have confirmed their squad list for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League with a Nigeria-eligible player making the cut.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti has selected left-footed centre-back Marvelous Antolín Garzón in the squad submitted to European football governing body, UEFA.
Marvel returned for a second spell at Real Madrid in 2016 after stops at Atlético de Madrid, Alcalá and Rayo Vallecano.
The 20-year-old is a homegrown player, having spent seven years at Los Blancos, and has been registered on the List B.
List B is exclusively for players who were born after January 1, 2002 and have played for the club for at least two consecutive years since the age of fifteen.
Other young talents included on Real Madrid's List B are Diego Piñeiro, Lucas Cañizares, Rafel Obrador, Alvaro Carrillo, Mario Martín, Nicolás Paz, Álvaro Rodríguez and Gonzalo.
Marvel will be wearing the number 35 at the back of his jersey should he feature in the Champions League.
Born in Casablanca, Morocco, Marvel has played one game for Real Madrid Castilla in this season's Primera Federación.
