Chelsea handed boost ahead of visit of Aston Villa with Madueke's return to training
Published: September 21, 2023
Chelsea have been handed a major boost ahead of their Premier League meeting with Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge with England U21 international of Nigerian descent, Noni Madueke returning to full training.
Madueke was unavailable for selection against Bournemouth last weekend after returning from Young Lions duty with a niggle.
The exciting winger returned to Chelsea training on Tuesday morning and was also spotted training with the team on Wednesday, putting him in contention to be available for the game against Aston Villa.
While Tuesday's session was more or less a recovery session, Wednesday's workout was intense as manager Mauricio Pochettino drilled the players including Madueke.
The Anglo-Nigerian youngster was expected to stake a claim for a starting spot in the new season but injuries have not been kind to him.
The 21-year-old missed a large chunk of pre-season preparations due to injury before the latest setback on international duty.
Madueke has made three appearances this term, including one start, and netted his second goal in Chelsea colours when he converted from the spot in the 2-1 win over AFC Wimbledon in the League Cup on August 30.
