Ex-Man City CB Onuoha not sold on Arsenal signing a new striker amid Osimhen, Solanke links

Former Manchester City center-back Nedum Onuoha is not convinced that Arsenal need a new striker as they seek to end their long-term wait for the Premier League.

The Gunners appear not to be satisfied with Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah as strikers with both managing just 8 goals between them in the Premier League this season.

This explains why they have been linked with a host of forwards ahead of the January transfer window including Napoli's Victor Osimhen, Bournemouth's Dominic Solanke, and Brentford star Ivan Toney.

Arsenal drew blanks in their loss to West Ham at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday and it has increased the call for the North London side to buy a central forward.

Speaking on ESPN FC while answering the question of whether the 13-time English champions need new number nine, Onuoha stated that he is not convinced that they need one.

"You know I am not 100% sold on that just because say last year for example at this point of the season, they had 50 points and it wasn't as if their striker scored 15, 20, 25 goals, they were very good in sharing the goals."

"You saw Martinelli have a marquee season, Saka, Odegaard and they were chipping in all around the field as well but I think in these sort of moments, you know there are so many questions leveled at Jesus but at one stage last year, it is like this oh this is great Arsenal, they have Jesus so they have ability to win the Premier League title but I don't know if they think they need a number nine, who is that going to be."

"So I think they are in a position where Arteta is probably happy with what he has but he just know they can perform better and I anticipate that would be the same sentiment shared around three or four teams as we reach the halfway point of the season."

Mikel Arteta's side have scored 36 goals in the English top flight this season,  the lowest among teams in the top 5 in the Premier League standings.

With Osimhen out of reach, they could attempt to sign Toney, Solanke or any other available central forwards when the transfer window opens next month.
