Chelsea or Paris Saint Germain? Pundit names the club likely to win the race for Osimhen
Published: April 01, 2024Italian pundit Giovanni Scotto is of the opinion that Paris Saint-Germain holds the upper hand in securing Victor Osimhen's signature during the upcoming summer transfer window, despite keen interest from English Premier League sides, particularly Chelsea.
The Nigeria international signed a new contract at Napoli last December, until the end of the 2025-2026 season, but he is expected to depart the Diego Maradona Stadium at the end of the season.
Napoli are planning to use the money from the sale of their number 9 to rebuild the squad for next season.
Signing Osimhen can be done in the summer transfer window by activating his release clause said to be in the region of 120 million euros.
Chelsea are in the market for a marquee centre forward to solve their goalscoring problems and have identified Osimhen as a top target but complying with Financial Fair Play Regulations (FFP) could be the main obstacle to a potential deal, meaning they have to sell some of their key players to fund the transfer of the reigning African Footballer of the Year.
Ligue 1 moneybags Paris Saint-Germain are keen to sign Osimhen as a replacement for Kylian Mbappé who is out of contract at season's end and heavily linked with a switch to Real Madrid.
"De Laurentiis was reassured: Osimhen's 120 million will come , I believe from Paris Saint Germain," Scotto told CalcioNapoli, via Area Napoli.
"This money will compensate for the lost Champions League revenues and partially those from the Club World Cup."
Paris Saint-Germain's football advisor Luis Campos recruited Osimhen for Lille in 2019 after scouting the striker for about four years.
