Confirmed: Chelsea youth product Akande offered new contract by Reading
Published: May 25, 2024Through a statement on their official website, Reading have confirmed the contractual decisions that have been made for players across their Under 21 and Under 18 teams.
The Royals have confirmed that Chelsea's Cobham product Adrian Akande is considering a contract offer from the club.
Akande has been offered a new contract after a breakout season that saw him register thirteen goal involvements in seventeen appearances for the development squad in the Premier League 2.
The 2019 Golden Eaglets invitee was nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month for April 2024 after supplying assists in three consecutive matches.
Akande joined Reading's academy setup in August 2022 following his release by Swansea City, after spending his formative years with Londoners Crystal Palace and Chelsea.
He was handed a squad number for the 2023-2024 season but did not receive a call-up for a first team game.
Akande was retained by Reading for the recently concluded season after an extension clause in his contract was triggered until the summer of 2024.
The exciting winger was named in Nigeria's squad for the 2019 Africa U17 Cup of Nations but was not used during the tournament in Tanzania, with the likes of Akinkunmi Amoo, Wisdom Ubani and Olakunle Olusegun ahead of him in manager Manu Garba's pecking order of forwards.
