Confirmed: Nigerian winger signs new contract that will keep him at Chelsea until at least 2027
Published: June 17, 2024With a statement on their official website, Premier League giants Chelsea have announced that talented English-born Nigerian winger Tyrique George has committed his future to the club by signing a new deal.
Allnigeriasoccer.com exclusively reported two days ago that George signed a fresh three-year contract to remain at Chelsea until the end of the 2026-2027 season, and the Blues have confirmed as much, adding that the new agreement includes an option for an additional season.
George has played nonstop at Chelsea since he was snapped up at U8 level and made his competitive debut in the U18 Premier League in his final season as a schoolboy.
The 18-year-old is inching closer to making his professional debut, given that he was named in the first team squad for Premier League games against Everton, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur in 2023-2024, and has been invited to train with the first team on multiple times.
Commenting on his new deal with the Blues, George stated: "I am extremely happy to extend my stay at Chelsea.
"I started my journey at the club from a young age, so to be able continue my story and grow in this environment means a lot.
"It has always been a dream to play for Chelsea. It is a blessing to extend my stay and to continue playing for the club that means so much to me.
"I am excited to see what my future holds at this club and make my mark."
Last season, George registered 12 goals and six assists in 21 all-competition appearances for Chelsea U18s, who are coached by Nigerian tactician Hassan Sulaiman.
The England U18 international also found the net for the development squad in Premier League 2, Premier League Cup and Premier League International Cup matches.
