Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru possibly joining Lazio this summer
Published: June 17, 2024Allnigeriasoccer.com can confirm that Super Eagles star Fisayo Dele-Bashiru could be on the verge of joining Lazio.
Sources close to the Manchester City academy product have informed this website that the central midfielder is possibly joining the Eagles in the summer transfer window.
This follows a report from Resat Ozbudak, who revealed that the Hatayspor ace is on the brink of joining the Italian Serie A side.
There is a need for the Italian side to bring in a new midfielder following the departure of Luis Alberto who has joined Qatar-based side Al Duhail and have identified Dele-Bashiru as replacement for the Spanish midfielder.
Alberto was one of Lazio's most influential players in the past eight years, featuring in 307 games and scoring 52 goals while registering 79 assists at the same time.
His departure has created a vacuum in the midfield which has necessitated the need to bring in a new creative midfielder which could be Dele-Bashiru.
The 23-year-old enjoyed a good season with Hatayspor in the last campaign, notching nine goals and six assists in 39 appearances across all competitions.
It was the first time that the Nigeria international will reach double figures for goal involvements in a season since he joined the Turkish time and also the first in his first international career.
Dele-Bashiru's performance for Hatayspor earned him a maiden call-up to the Super Eagles squad last October, featuring in the international friendly game against Mozambique.
He was also invited for the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualification games against South Africa and Benin respectively and got his first international goal against Bafana Bafana.
