Chelsea withdraw from race to sign ex-Super Eagles invitee who has chosen to join Bayern Munich
Published: June 21, 2024
According to reliable transfer reporter David Ornstein, Chelsea have taken a step back in their pursuit of 2021 Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise.
As written in his report for The Athletic UK, Ornstein revealed that the Blues have withdrawn from the race to sign the Crystal Palace forward as they feel that striking a deal for him will push them beyond their financial limits.
The 22-year-old reportedly has a release clause of £60m as inserted in the contract he signed last summer with Crystal Palace, a valuation that has now been deemed excessive by Chelsea.
Having withdrawn from the race to sign the French youth international, the club have now decided to show more faith in existing players at the club but are still expected to still sign two attackers in this transfer window.
This could be good news for Anglo-Nigerian forward Noni Madueke who has been linked with an exit from the two-time European champions due to the club's interest in Olise.
The two forwards operate mainly from the right wing and Madueke may have had his game time affected if the Reading Academy product had moved to Stamford Bridge.
According to the latest update from Ornstein, Olise has chosen to join Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
Bayern Munich were among the three clubs to contact Crystal Palace last week and are now expected to agree a deal with Crystal Palace for the exciting winger, who is permitted to depart the Eagles in the summer transfer window due to the release clause in his contract.
