Mourinho wants to keep Osayi-Samuel as Super Eagles RB demands N4b p.a. to extend Fenerbahce stay
Published: June 23, 2024
Turkish Super Lig club Fenerbahce are keen on retaining the services of Bright Osayi-Samuel for the upcoming season amid speculation linking the former Queens Park Rangers dazzler with a return to England in the summer transfer window.
The Blackpool academy product has been linked with a possible move to Wolverhampton Wanderers, while Crystal Palace and Leeds United have been credited with an interest in the winger-turned-fullback.
Signed from Queens Park Rangers in January 2021, Osayi-Samuel has a contract with Fenerbahce which is up at the end of the 2024-2025 season and the Istanbul giants don't want the contract of one of their key players to run out.
According to Turkish sports daily Fanatik, Fenerbahçe have begun contract extension negotiations with Osayi-Samuel.
The report added that the Nigeria international asked for an increase in his salary, and new coach of Fenerbahce Jose Mourinho also expressed his opinion in favor of Osayi-Samuel staying.
Osayi-Samuel is demanding a net annual salary of 2.5 million euros (approximately N4 billion in Nigerian currency) to extend his contract at Fenerbahce, 700,000 euros more than he currently earns.
Negotiations to extend his contract are ongoing but no agreement has been reached yet, and the parties are expected to meet this week to find a compromise.
Mourinho has Osayi-Samuel in his plans for the upcoming campaign and considering him for the roles of right-back or wing-back.
Last season, he appeared in 39 matches in all competitions, scoring four goals and providing six assists.
