Published: July 14, 2024
Erik ten Hag has named two teenage Nigeria-eligible players among his Manchester United's 25-man squad to face Norwegian giants Rosenborg in a pre-season fixture on Monday.
The two players are defender Maximillian Oyedele (19) and fullback Habeeb Ogunneye (18) with the duo being named alongside Jonny Evans and seven other players classed as defenders.
Manchester United are without Lisandro Martínez who is still with Argentina at Copa America and Luke Shaw who could feature for England against Spain in Euro 2024 final tonight as well as other senior players who are yet to resume due to their international commitments at the 2024 European Championship and Copa America.
Ogunneye was close to being handed his first team debut by ten Hag last season, having been named in the matchday squad nine times, including the Premier League matches against Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.
He also featured for in the U18 Premier League and also played in the FA Youth Cup, UEFA Youth League, the EFL Trophy and Premier League 2.
Conversely, Oyedele is still waiting for his first official involvement with the first team though he has tasted first team football with Forest Green Rovers and Altrincham respectively while he was on loan with the two clubs.
The duo will be hoping to feature when Manchester United face Rosenburg at Lerkendal Stadium in Norway tomorrow in the first of their two preseason friendlies before flying to the USA for Tour 2024.
Oyedele is also eligible to represent England at Poland at international level, while Ogunneye is an England youth teamer.
