Akwa United's teenage sensation Sani Suleiman received the prestigious Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Rookie of the Season award at the League Bloggers Awards ceremony on Friday, July 19.
The young forward started the campaign in the Nigeria National League (NNL) with Wikki Tourist of Bauchi State.
Suleiman, 17, made a mid-season move to Akwa United after shining in the second-tier league.
Prior to recruiting Suleiman, Akwa United were struggling in the league, finding themselves fighting for survival in the NPFL.
His remarkable displays on the field transformed the club's destiny, netting 11 goals that secured their stay in the NPFL, finishing just above the relegation zone with 49 points.
Furthermore, in his initial 15 matches in the NPFL, he notched up 10 goals and contributed 5 assists.
Suleiman's outstanding performances earned him the prestigious NPFL Rookie of the Season accolade at the League Bloggers Award ceremony.
The League Bloggers Award is an event that recognizes excellence in the NPFL and NNL throughout the season.
Having had an impressive breakout season in the NPFL, the young forward will be aiming to further his development, with a move to Europe on the cards.
