Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur battling to sign N52b-rated Nigerian left-back
Published: July 22, 2024
According to Calcio Lecce, Lecce have placed a €30m (approximately N52 billion in Nigerian currency) valuation on Danish-born Nigerian left-back Patrick Dorgu who has been linked with the London trio of Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
The 19-year-old was one of the best youngsters in the Serie A last term and has caught the attention of clubs within and outside Italy.
Chelsea reportedly want to dispose of either 2024 European championship star Marc Cucurella or England international Ben Chilwell which could pave the way for the club to move for the fullback.
Tottenham's interest in him is fascinating as they boast one of the most outstanding left-backs in the Premier League last term in Destiny Udogie and a move to the North London side will be risky for the young defender.
Arsenal have Oleksandr Zinchenko, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Jakub Kiwior and Jurrien Timber as options in the fullback position.
Zinchenko has been linked with Bayern Munich and Newcastle this summer while Kiwior has also been linked with Juventus and Inter Milan.
Tomiyasu is injury prone and Timber is just returning from a long injury lay-off and is primarily a centre-back.
Therefore, it isn't surprising that they are being linked with Dorgu but it remains to be seen how concrete their interest is particularly with the likely signing of Riccardo Calafiori.
As earlier mentioned, there is also interest within Italy as Napoli have reportedly submitted a bid for him but it was rejected by Lecce while AC Milan and Atalanta have also been credited with an interest too.
