Championship table-toppers Sunderland interested in signing former Nigeria U20 international
Published: August 30, 2024As reported by Fabrizio Romano, EFL Championship table-toppers Sunderland are interested in signing former Flying Eagles forward Ahmed Abdullahi from KAA Gent.
The English outfit are said to be discussing with their Belgian counterparts over signing the talented striker and have sent a bid to further their interest, the value of which is unknown at the moment.
Sunderland struggled for goals last term and have tried to address their goal-scoring problems with the signing of Wilson Isidor and Ian Poveda this summer and may now add Abdullahi to their arsenal.
The 20-year-old joined Gent in 2022 after undergoing trials with French giants Olympique de Marseille and German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.
Upon joining the Buffalos, he played for the youth side known as Jong KAA Gent and made 10 appearances in his first season but didn't find the back of the net.
His fortune changed last season when he netted 21 goals in 28 games in the Belgian First Amateur Division and was handed his first-team debut against Sint-Truiden in February.
He also made a late cameo in FCV Dender EH earlier this month but may now be on the verge of dumping the Jupiler Pro-League for the English Championship.
Abdullahi featured for the Flying Eagles at the 2023 U20 Africa Cup of Nations but didn't impress, scoring just once in five games and was dumped for the U20 Fifa World Cup.
