Former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has made a notable return to Uyo as he prepares for an intriguing encounter against Nigeria in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Rohr, who previously managed the Super Eagles from 2016 to 2021, was spotted arriving in Uyo on Thursday.
Known for his composed demeanor, the 71-year-old German was seen in his characteristic suit.
The highly anticipated match will see Rohr's current team, Republic of Benin's Cheetahs, face off against Nigeria at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium this Saturday.
Rohr's return to Uyo comes after his team secured a 2-1 victory over Nigeria in June during a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
During his tenure with Nigeria, Rohr led the Super Eagles to the 2018 FIFA World Cup and guided them to a third-place finish in the 2019 AFCON.
Despite qualifying Nigeria for the 2021 AFCON, he was replaced by Austin Eguavoen before the tournament, where Nigeria reached the Round of 16.
Rohr will be eager to achieve a double victory over Nigeria and further solidify his reputation as he continues his managerial journey with the Benin Cheetahs.
