Eguavoen receives good news from Cardiff City boss on fitness of Collins ahead of October's Afconq
Published: September 20, 2024
Speaking at the pre-match press conference before his team take on Leeds United in a Championship clash on Saturday, Cardiff City manager Erol Bulut revealed that Jamilu Collins is in the frame to be included in the gameday squad.
The Super Eagles left-back was forced to miss Cardiff City's first seven competitive games of the new season due to an injury he suffered during pre-season preparations.
He was not called up for the Championship games against Sunderland, Burnley, Swansea City, Middlesbrough and Derby County, plus the Carabao Cup ties with Bristol Rovers and Southampton.
The injury meant he was not considered for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Benin and Rwanda earlier this month.
But there is light at the end of the tunnel, with Erol Bulut confirming that Collins has been declared fit to make his season debut in Saturday afternoon's match against Leeds United at the Cardiff City Stadium.
In quotes relayed by Yorkshire Evening Post, the Turkish football tactician told reporters: "He’s trained with us all week so he’s available".
Cardiff City have struggled without their first choice left-back available for selection, losing four of their opening five games in the Championship and are the bottom team in the division with one point.
Collins' potential return to action will be music to the ears of Nigeria's interim coach Augustine Eguavoen who is expected to announce his squad list for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in October by the end of this month.
The former Paderborn man was not called up for the last four games played by the Super Eagles due to fitness issues.
