2023 Super Eagles invitee makes Superliga debut for Danish club Sonderjyske
Published: September 22, 20242023 Super Eagles invitee Ebube Duru made his Danish Superliga debut for Sønderjyske Fodbold on Sunday afternoon as the Haderslev-based team defeated Vejle BK 2-1 at Sydbank Park.
Duru signed a three-year contract with Sønderjyske on September 3, 2024 following a successful trial.
A day after his signing was confirmed and with his work and residence permit already in place, he made his debut in a Danish Cup match against Solröd FC, and helped his new employers register a 7-0 win in the second round of the competition.
Sønderjyske manager Thomas Nörgaard selected the same twenty players that travelled to Brondby last weekend, meaning Duru was also named in the matchday squad.
While he was a non-playing substitute against Brondby, he started and was in action for 72 minutes against Vejle BK before making way for Marc Dal Hende.
Marc Dal Hende, who replaced the Nigerian, netted the game-winning goal in the seventh minute of stoppage time, slotting in at the far post after a good cross from Andreas Oggesen.
Lirim Qamili broke the deadlock in the 27th minute when he headed a corner delivery from Kristall Ingason but the visitors equalized through Yeni N'Gbakoto with sixteen minutes left on the clock.
A Nigeria Premier Football League champion with Rivers United in 2022, he was in the Super Eagles squad for a high profile friendly against Portugal in November 2022, and also made the bench against Algeria and Sierra Leone without making his senior debut.
