'I don't like the PL' - Boniface admits amid Chelsea, Tottenham links; reveals his preferred destinations
Published: September 25, 2024Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface has reiterated that he is not a fan of the English Premier League amid recent speculation linking him with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
It has been reported that the Blues are monitoring the Nigeria international with a potential future transfer in mind, while Tottenham explored signing him during the summer window before choosing Dominic Solanke.
Boniface has made a splash since arriving in Germany in the summer of 2023, playing a key role as Bayer Leverkusen won the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal.
The 23-year-old was in the Bayer Leverkusen side beaten by Ademola Lookman's Atalanta in the final of the Europa League back in May.
Despite an injury he sustained while on international duty with the Super Eagles that kept him sidelined for around three months, he finished his first season at Bayer Leverkusen with spectacular figures.
Boniface exceeded expectations, registering 31 goal involvements (21 goals, 10 assists) in thirty-four appearances, proving that he is an offensive all-rounder.
The former Royale Union Saint-Gilloise man has picked up when he left off last term by scoring four times and producing an assist in six all-competition appearances in the new season.
Having put himself in the shop window, he is being linked with a move to the Premier League, but the Super Eagles star has emphasized that he would rather continue in Germany or make a switch to Spain's La Liga if he ends his stay at Bayer Leverkusen.
When asked if he sees himself playing in the Premier League, apart from the Bundesliga, Boniface told SportyTV: "No. I admit I did an interview before and I'm not saying this just because I'm on this level.
"I've been saying this even before I had an international passport, even before I dreamt of coming to Europe, I don't really like the Premier League.
"I said this before. I prefer Spanish football or German football. I'm not saying for example a good team comes for me I will not go.
"But I am just saying if you ask me to pick two countries, I really want to play in Germany and Spain, to live and play in Germany and Spain."
Allnigeriasoccer.com exclusively reported on Wednesday that there has been no contact between Boniface’s camp and Chelsea or Tottenham about a potential transfer, and it can be stressed that no negotiations have taken place as of now.
