Super Eagles midfielder Onyedika nominated for Club Brugge's Player of the Month
Published: September 29, 2024Raphael Onyedika has been recognized for his outstanding performances in September following his nomination for Club Brugge's Player of the Month.
Onyedika and four other Club Brugge players are in the running for the monthly accolade.
The Nigeria national teamer has been nominated alongside Hans Vanaken, Christos Tzolis, Gustaf Nilsson and Simon Mignolet.
With the exception of the 3-0 road win at KV Kortrijk on September 14, Onyedika started all the games played by Club Brugge this month, logging 324 minutes spread across five matches.
The FC Ebedei product went the distance against Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League and the derby with Cercle Brugge.
Onyedika was controversially sent off in his last game, ten minutes into the second half, meaning Club Brugge were forced to play with ten players in a 1-1 draw against Royal Charleroi S.C.
Although the midfielder's studs were visible, the intensity of the tackle on Parfait Guiagon was not excessive.
On the international stage, he helped the Super Eagles register a convincing 3-0 win over Benin and a draw against Rwanda, coming off the bench in the two 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in September 2024.
Onyedika was heavily linked with a transfer to Galatasaray before the close of the Turkish window but despite agreeing personal terms, the Super Lig champions missed out on his signature.
