Ogbus signs new Freiburg deal amid Nottingham Forest, Leeds United interest
Published: September 30, 2024
With a statement on their official website, SC Freiburg have announced that dual-national central defender Bruno Ogbus has committed his future to the club by putting pen to paper on a new contract.
As usual, the German Bundesliga club have not disclosed any details regarding the exact duration of the contract.
Having impressed in pre-season games against SCR Altach, RC Strasbourg and SpVgg Greuther Fürth and starring for the youth team, Ogbus was promoted to Freiburg's first team before the season started.
The Switzerland U20 international of Nigerian descent made his professional debut in a DFB-Pokal clash against
VfL Osnabrück on August 17 and his Bundesliga debut came against VfB Stuttgart on the opening day of the season.
He attracted concrete interest from English clubs Nottingham Forest and Leeds United but Freiburg insisted that he was not for sale in the summer transfer window.
Both clubs are monitoring the Swiss-Nigerian defender with a view to a future transfer.
Besides Leeds United and Nottingham Forest, Italian Serie A outfit AC Milan also attempted to sign him before the start of the season but Freiburg rejected an offer in the low single-digit million range.
Ogbus' career started at FC Zürich youth academy before making the switch to SC Freiburg in January 2022.
He has been included in the squad for every match Freiburg has played this season and featured in three of them.
