UEL: Shoretire returns to Old Trafford 900 days after his last game for Manchester United
Published: November 06, 2024
Shola Shoretire is set to return to Old Trafford on Thursday when PAOK take on Manchester United in a Europa League encounter.
Thursday, November 7 will mark exactly nine hundred days since the Red Devils academy graduate last represented Manchester United in a competitive fixture, against Crystal Palace on May 22, 2022.
The English-Nigerian attacking midfielder left the Red Devils to join the defending Greek champions in the summer in search of more first-team opportunities.
The 20-year-old has been included in the PAOK traveling squad for the UEFA Europa League matchday four tie with Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Shoretire spent nine years with the Premier League giants and, and after graduating from the Academy, he couldn't get enough minutes to play with the first team.
He has made eight appearances for PAOK, which is more than the number of games he featured for Manchester United.
However, he has been unable to nail a starting berth, having made just three starts across all competitions, two in the Super League Greece and one in the Greek Football Cup.
Regardless, the former England U19 midfielder would be happy that he is now in a better position to play first-team football.
He would be hoping to join Danny Welbeck, Wilfried Zaha, Joshua King, Fraizer Campbell, Keith Gillespie, Mark Hughes and Paul Ince on the list of former Red Devils stars who have come back to score against the club in Thursday's clash.
