'Coming here is never easy' - Lookman delighted with Atalanta win despite intimidating atmosphere
Published: November 07, 2024
Ademola Lookman was delighted with Atalanta's 2-0 victory over VfB Stuttgart in a UEFA Champions League encounter on Wednesday night held at MHPArena Stuttgart.
The Nigeria international noted that the Nerazzurri were able to secure all three points despite the intimidating atmosphere.
After a goalless first half, Lookman broke the deadlock in the 51st minute when he tapped in a pinpoint pass from Charles De Ketelaere, before Nicolò Zaniolo found the far corner of the net with a low finish from the edge of the penalty area in the 88th minute.
Lookman is familiar with the MHPArena, having played there once during his stint with RB Leipzig.
The 27-year-old is in a rich vein of form at the moment, with his strike against VfB Stuttgart taking his goal involvements for the season to thirteen (8 goals, 5 assists) from 13 all-competition appearances.
Atalanta, one of the six undefeated teams in the Champions League, have accumulated 8 points from four games and sit ninth in the standings.
In quotes relayed by UEFA's official website, Lookman stated: “We had a positive first half. We created dangerous moments in the game, so (the aim was to) just keep doing what we were doing.
"We knew the chances would come and we took them. We're happy with the three points and we’ll keep going.”
The Atalanta number 11 continued: "We knew how important this game would be. Coming here is never easy – I think we all saw the atmosphere and how loud it was.
"It was great for us to experience it and play here, and wonderful for us to put on the performance that we did in this stadium."
Lookman has been named in the latest Nigeria squad for their internationals in November against Benin's Cheetahs and Rwanda's Wasps, and is expected to report for Super Eagles duty after Atalanta's Serie A match against Udinese on Sunday, November 10.
