'I'm not exaggerating at all' - Ex-Besiktas forward reveals what makes Galatasaray striker Osimhen special
Published: November 22, 2024Former Beşiktaş forward Nihat Kahveci has revealed what makes Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen a special player as the Süper Lig continues to prove to be a comfort zone for Nigerian players.
Paul Onuachu took the Süper Lig by storm last season, scoring 15 goals for Trabzonspor but Osimhen is taking it to another level with his performance for Galatasaray.
The 25-year-old's heroics for the Lion has made him a fan favourite and Turkish pundits cannot stop talking about his brilliance.
Not only has he been prolific, scoring eight goals in nine games, but he has also demonstrated his selflessness by providing four assists—two in the Süper Lig and the others in the UEFA Europa League.
His relationship with Dries Mertens, with whom he played at Napoli, could also be credited for his astonishing form.
It's no surprise that Mertens has provided two assists for him, and he has also reciprocated with one assist.
Speaking to Kontraspor Youtube channel via haber sari kirmizi, Kahveci has been impressed with Osimhen's relationship with Icardi and firmly believes that the Nigeria international is special.
“Victor Osimhen has no explanation without Icardi. This alone is very important. Goal scorers are a bit egoistic, selfish and a bit jealous.," Kahveci stated.
"They always want to score more than the one next to them. There were some like that, I played with some like that, but Osimhen always talks about Icardi, he is very sharing, when his friends score a goal he is more happy than them.
"He even stops celebrating his own goal and celebrates for Icardi. He is a very great character.
"I think he is a player and a character that all team fans would like to see on their team. Well done, congratulations."
The retired Turkey international then said that the Napoli-owned striker deserves all the praise that has come his way.
"Since the first day he arrived, he has been showing everything he has on the field without any hesitation. I am not exaggerating at all. This player deserves it. How can we not praise such a player?"
Having returned from international duty with Nigeria unscathed, he is in the Galatasaray travelling squad for their Süper Lig encounter with Bodrum FK on Saturday.
