Bristol City and Swansea weighing up moves for Celtic alum Osaze Urhoghide
Published: January 17, 2025
Super Eagles-eligible defender Osaze Urhoghide has been linked with a potential move to Championship sides Bristol City and Swansea following his impressive performances in Ligue 2 with Amiens, according to Football Insider.
The 24-year-old, who previously played for Celtic, has caught attention after scoring three goals in 18 matches across all competitions this season in France.
His standout displays have sparked speculation over his future, with both Bristol City and Swansea reportedly showing interest.
Bristol City and Swansea, currently ninth and 12th in the Championship table respectively, are seeking defensive reinforcements as the January transfer window approaches its closure on February 3rd.
Capable of playing across the backline, Urhoghide's arrival is expected to strengthen the defense of both teams as they aim for promotion to the Premier League.
However, a potential transfer might prove challenging for the Championship duo, as Urhoghide remains under contract with Amiens until June 2026.
Born in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Osaze Urhoghide remains eligible to represent Nigeria at the international level.
The 24-year-old, who qualifies to play for the Netherlands, England, and Nigeria, has yet to make an appearance for any national team, although he trained with Nigeria's Olympic squad in 2019.
A return to English football could boost his chances of earning a call-up to the Super Eagles under coach Eric Chelle ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March 2025.
Nigeria is set to face Zimbabwe and Rwanda as they aim to revive their hopes of qualifying for the tournament after missing out on the 2022 edition in Qatar.
