Obi-Martin shines with brace as Manchester United beat Preston North End in FA Youth Cup
Published: January 18, 2025
Chido Obi-Martin continued his impressive form for Manchester United's U18s, scoring a brace in a commanding 5-2 victory over Preston North End in the Youth FA Cup on Friday night.
The young center-forward, who joined United from Arsenal in the summer, has impressed since the move, scoring five goals and providing one assists in five U18 Premier League games.
Obi-Martin netted United's third and fourth goals, with Jack Fletcher, Reece Munro, and Amir Ibragimov also finding the back of the net.
The Nigerian-eligible forward was instrumental in the opening goal, delivering a clever forward ball that allowed James Scanlon to cut back for Jack Fletcher, who bundled the ball home after a goalkeeper clearance in the 7th minute.
In the 24th minute, Obi-Martin opened his personal tally by pouncing on a loose ball, turning swiftly, and striking from close range.
He added his second with a moment of individual brilliance, skipping past his marker with clever footwork before curling a precise shot past the goalkeeper and into the bottom-right corner at minute 31.
There were high expectations for the youngster ahead of the match, with star forward Gabriele Biancheri sidelined due to an arm injury.
The Welsh youth international has been in scintillating form, scoring 16 goals in 17 matches this season, including a hat-trick against Coventry City in the third round.
With Biancheri absent, Obi-Martin stepped up impressively, proving his readiness to lead the line for United's as they continue their Youth FA Cup campaign against Chelsea in the fifth round.
