Championship promotion hopefuls Leeds United not working on deal to sign Iheanacho
Published: January 31, 2025
EFL Championship side Leeds United have distanced themselves from reports linking them with a move for Kelechi Iheanacho, the out-of-favour Sevilla striker.
Despite initial speculation suggesting that the Whites were interested in signing the Nigerian international, it appears that the club is not actively pursuing a deal.
According to transfer insider Ben Jacobs, Leeds United are not working on a deal to sign Iheanacho this January, contrary to earlier reports.
The winter transfer market is set to close on Monday night, and it seems that the Whites are focusing their attention elsewhere.
Iheanacho, who joined Sevilla last summer, has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter for the Spanish giants.
The 28-year-old has found game time hard to come by, and it was reported earlier this month that Leeds United had registered an interest in signing him.
However, it now appears that the Yorkshire outfit is not interested in pursuing a move for Iheanacho at this time.
Instead, the club is believed to be focusing on other targets, including Cameron Archer, the young striker who has been linked with a move to Elland Road.
Leeds United manager Daniel Farke is keen to strengthen his attacking options before the end of the transfer window, but it seems that Iheanacho is not a priority target.
The Whites already have a number of attacking options at their disposal, including Joel Piroe, Mateo Joseph, and Patrick Bamford.
With Leeds United currently sitting top of the Championship table, the club is well-placed to push for promotion to the Premier League.
