Dortmund thrashing out Chukwuemeka terms with Chelsea but face PL and Ligue 1 competition
Published: February 02, 2025
Borussia Dortmund have reportedly opened talks with Chelsea over a possible deal for England youth international of Nigerian descent Carney Chukwuemeka.
Italian transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano says Chelsea will not accept loaning out the midfielder with an option to buy clause included in the deal.
A straight loan remains the only option Chelsea are considering in the final forty-eight hours of the winter transfer market, with Borussia Dortmund interested and engaged in discussions with the Blues' hierarchy.
Chelsea are unlikely to agree to the Bundesliga side’s proposal of a loan deal including a €30 million purchase option.
In addition to Borussia Dortmund, Racing Strasbourg, AS Monaco and two Premier League clubs are keen on Chukwuemeka.
Signed as a player for the future, Chukwuemeka joined Chelsea from Aston Villa in the summer of 2022 for a fee of £20 million, but wants to leave the Londoners before the window closes due to inadequate playing opportunities.
In the current season, the central midfielder has made just one start from a possible thirty-four across all competitions, an indication that he is not in the plans of manager Enzo Maresca.
Playing time, loan fee and the player's development will be crucial factors as Borussia Dortmund, Strasbourg, Monaco and two unnamed Premier League clubs compete for the signature of Chukwuemeka.
