Slavia Prague respond as Galatasaray make N19b bid for ex-Flying Eagles CB Igoh Ogbu
Published: February 07, 2025
Czech First League giants Slavia Prague have rebuffed a lucrative offer from Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray for former Flying Eagles central defender Igoh Ogbu.
The Nigerian center-back has been a stalwart for Slavia Prague since joining the club in 2023, and his impressive performances have caught the attention of several top European clubs.
Galatasaray, who are keen to bolster their defense, tabled a substantial bid of 12 million euros (approximately N19 billion in Nigerian currency) for Ogbu's services, according to a report from infotbal.cz.
However, Slavia Prague's management has opted to reject the offer, prioritizing their domestic and European ambitions over the financial windfall.
Slavia Prague's decision to turn down Galatasaray's offer was motivated by their desire to maintain a strong squad as they chase the Czech First League title and a spot in the Champions League.
The club's hierarchy believes that selling Ogbu at this critical juncture would weaken their defense and jeopardize their chances of achieving their goals.
The Super Eagles hopeful has made 82 competitive appearances for the club since his arrival from Norwegian side Lilleström in 2023, registering four goal involvements.
His impressive form has earned him a reputation as one of the top defenders in the Czech First League, and it's little wonder that Galatasaray were willing to part with a significant sum to secure his services.
Although the transfer window in Turkey remains open until February 11th, it appears that Galatasaray's hopes of landing Ogbu have been dashed, at least for the time being.
Slavia Prague management is reportedly bracing itself for another offer from Galatasaray or other interested parties in the summer, but for now, Ogbu will remain a key component of the Czech club's defense.
