2026 World Cup qualifier: Red-hot Valencia striker Sadiq is 22nd player in Kigali pre-Rwanda
Published: March 18, 2025
Valencia forward Sadiq Umar has joined the Super Eagles camp in Kigali, Rwanda, increasing the number of players in camp to 22 ahead of Friday's crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda.
Sadiq Umar arrived on Tuesday morning, further boosting Nigeria's attacking options. With his arrival, the team is only expecting Alhassan Ibrahim.
The Super Eagles opened their camp on Sunday night with the arrival of team officials, technical staff, and six players. Since then, the squad has steadily grown, with several key players reporting for duty.
As part of their preparations, the team has been undergoing intensive training, including a gym session led by the technical staff.
A video circulating online shows the players being put through their paces, highlighting their focus and determination ahead of the decisive encounter.
Umar's arrival is a welcome boost for head coach Eric Chelle, who will be pleased with the presence of the in-form striker.
Since his loan move to Valencia in January, Umar has revived his career, scoring four goals in eight La Liga matches to help his club fight against relegation.
Chelle will be hoping that Umar, along with other attacking talents in the squad, can maintain their fine form and inspire Nigeria to a crucial victory over the Amavubi at the Amahoro Stadium.
The Super Eagles, currently fifth in Group C, must secure maximum points to keep their World Cup qualification hopes alive.
