Galatasaray striker Osimhen responds to critics with two-goal display in win against Fenerbahce
Published: April 02, 2025
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen delivered a resounding response to his critics, scoring twice as Galatasaray secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over arch-rivals Fenerbahçe at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Osimhen, who joined the Yellow-Reds last summer, had faced criticism for failing to make an impact against Turkey's top clubs, particularly Fenerbahçe, Besiktas and Trabzonspor.
Before the match, he had managed just one goal in encounters against these heavyweights this season.
However, the Nigerian forward wasted no time in setting the record straight. He opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a stunning strike after receiving a layoff from Barış Alper Yılmaz.
He then doubled Galatasaray’s lead from the penalty spot in the 27th minute, ensuring his team went into halftime with a comfortable two-goal advantage.
Osimhen's latest brace takes his season tally to 28 goals and five assists in 32 matches across all competitions, bringing his total goal contributions to 33.
With three minutes left in the match, the in-form striker was substituted for former Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata.
The brace secured Galatasaray's victory over Fenerbahçe in the Turkish Cup quarterfinals, setting the stage for the Yellow-Reds to push for a domestic double this season.
His impressive display has continued to attract interest from top European clubs, with Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Juventus reportedly monitoring his situation ahead of the summer transfer window.
