Super Eagles fullback Ebuehi makes his comeback from injury after 387 days out of action
Published: April 06, 2025
Nigeria international Tyronne Ebuehi made his comeback from injury as Empoli were held to a goalless draw by Cagliari in a Serie A match at Carlo Castellani on Sunday.
Before the visit of The Islanders, March 15, 2024 was the last time the Dutch-born fullback made an appearance for Empoli and 387 days later, he returned to action.
Following three consecutive games on the bench without playing, Ebuehi finally saw action as he was brought on to replace Junior Sambia with sixty-five minutes played.
Ebuehi was impressive in his first game in over a year, helping Empoli keep their first clean sheet in the Italian top-flight since November 4, 2024.
While preparing to link up with the Super Eagles for a pair of international friendlies against Ghana and Mali, the defender suffered a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during a Serie A encounter with Bologna.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, the Super Eagles star said he was in good condition, delighted to be back after a difficult year, and that he was there to help the team.
The former Benfica player highlighted that Empoli missed opportunities to score against Cagliari but pointed out they were united as a family and believed in themselves.
Empoli, 18th in the 20-team Serie A table, are two points from safety with seven matches remaining.
