'Good performance' - Former Atalanta manager lauds Dele-Bashiru after game-winning assist for Lazio
Published: April 07, 2025
Former Italian midfielder Delio Rossi heaped praise on Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, the Nigerian midfielder following his efforts during Lazio's 1-0 victory over Atalanta at the Gewiss stadium.
After a goalless first half, Dele-Bashiru—who played the entirety of the match —set up Gustav Isaksen's second-half goal with a well-timed assist.
The Nigeria international, after a deep run from midfield, connected with a long ball from goalkeeper Christos Mandas to set up Isaksen, who tapped into the net.
The victory, Lazio's first in the last four games, revived the hopes of the Biancocelesti to secure a European spot at the end of the current campaign.
Speaking to radiosei.it, Delio Rossi , who managed Atalanta in the past, lauded the performance of Dele-Bashiru in midfield alongside the combination of Nicolò Rovella and Reda Belahyan.
"Lazio's match yesterday (on Sunday) was intelligent, especially in relation to the type of opponent. Atalanta expressed themselves better when playing away from home and Baroni's game plan was logical," he stated.
"Not leaving space for the Nerazzurri means then finding space in their half of the field. The midfield pair Rovella-Belahyane was a key, also good performance by Dele-Bashiru. Lazio's performance is also a sign of maturity."
Dele-Bashiru, who joined Lazio last summer from Hatayspor, had a tough start to life in the Serie A, despite an excellent game on his debut against Venezia.
The 24-year-old has recovered from the early dip form and had a resurgence in his form in the league, scoring three goals and providing one assist in eighteen league appearances.
With his new form, Dele-Bashiru would hope to earn an invitation to the Super Eagles after missing out on the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe due to injury.
