'I criticise En-Nesyri, I defend Osimhen' - Fenerbahce icon says fans now call him a traitor
Published: May 04, 2025
Fenerbahce icon Serhat Akın has confessed that fans of the Yellow Canaries have declared him a traitor for throwing his weight behind Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen and criticizing Fenerbahce forward Youssef En-Nesyri.
While the 2022 World Cup star for Morocco's Atlas Lions has tallied 33 goal involvements (26 goals, 7 assists) in 47 appearances for Jose Mourinho's side so far this season, Osimhen is in the best form of his career, having directly participated in 41 goals in 37 games.
By scoring a brace against Sivasspor on Saturday evening, the former African Footballer of the Year broke his personal record for goals in a single season.
Serhat Akın, who won three Süper Lig titles as a Fenerbahce player, has voiced his frustration over recent criticism from supporters, insisting that his concerns stem from the club's declining performances.
Fenerbahce's draw with Eyüpspor, combined with dropped points at home against Samsunspor and Kayserispor, has heightened frustration among supporters.
Serhat Akın, who scored 49 goals in 154 appearances for the club, questioned how he could possibly defend such underwhelming results.
"The Fenerbahçe community is a big community. I criticize En Nesyri, I defend Osimhen," Serhat Akın was quoted as saying by gsgazete.
"I am being declared a traitor. Stop these empty chats. Gaatasaray goes and scores 5 against Eyüpspor, scores 4 against Sivasspor in the first half.
"Fenerbahce draws with Eyüpspor and gives points to Samsunspor and Kayserispor at home. How can I defend Fenerbahce?"
In the provisional Super Lig standings, Galatasaray are leading the way with 83 points, eight more than Fenerbahce, who have a game in hand.
