'It felt like slow motion' - Tyrique George discusses his first Premier League goal for Chelsea
Published: May 08, 2025
Chelsea forward Tyrique George has had a season to remember, with a series of milestones marking his rise into the first team spotlight.
The Cobham graduate has not only moved into the first-team dressing room alongside his boyhood friend, Josh Acheampong, but he also etched his name in Premier League history.
Ten days after scoring his first senior goal to become the youngest Nigeria-eligible player to score for Chelsea in European competition, George entered the history books again.
At 19 years and 75 days old, George became the youngest Nigerian player to score in the Premier League on April 20, 2025, when he found the net against Fulham to inspire Chelsea's comeback in a 2-1 win at Craven Cottage.
Five minutes after replacing Nicolas Jackson, George changed the momentum of the game, drilling the ball into the bottom corner to bring Chelsea back on terms, before Pedro Neto scored in stoppage time to seal the win.
Reflecting on the moment, George recalls the intense emotions that surged through him.
He told Chelsea's matchday programme for the visit of Djurgarden: "That was good, wasn’t it? To be fair, it felt like slow motion – it was weird.
"I hit it and I just saw it go in the corner, but when Pedro picked up the ball, I was like, ‘Oh my God, we actually still need to win the game,’ so I just turned around and ran back."
Tyrique George has registered six goal involvements (2 goals, 4 assists) in twenty-two appearances for Chelsea's first team ahead of tonight's clash against Djurgarden at Stamford Bridge.
