Nigeria’s Super Falcons delivered a stunning 5-0 victory over Zambia’s Copper Queens in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) quarterfinal at Larbi Zaouli Stadium, Casablanca.
The nine-time champions showcased their attacking brilliance and defensive strength, securing a semifinal berth and bolstering their pursuit of a record-extending 10th title.
The onslaught began early as Osinachi Ohale headed in a free-kick from Esther Okoronkwo in the 2nd minute, setting the tone for Nigeria’s dominance.
Okoronkwo doubled the lead in the 33rd minute, expertly chesting down a precise pass from captain Rasheedat Ajibade before slotting past Zambia’s goalkeeper Musole.
Chinwendu Ihezuo capitalized on a defensive error to make it 3-0 just before halftime, firing in her third goal of the tournament.
In the second half, Oluwatosin Demehin headed home a corner in the 68th minute, further solidifying Nigeria’s control.
The rout was completed in the first minute of second half stoppage time when Folashade Ijamilusi rounded off a five-star performance, scoring from close range.
Zambia’s star forwards, Barbra Banda and Racheal Kundananji, were neutralized by Nigeria’s resolute defense, led by Ashleigh Plumptre and Demehin, with goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie maintaining her tournament-long clean sheet.
The Super Falcons now await either South Africa or Senegal in the semifinals.
