Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson left Arthur Okonkwo out of the matchday squad for their Championship opener against Cardiff City amid uncertainty over the Super Eagles goalkeeper's future, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Red Dragons signed Anthony Patterson from Sunderland for a club-record fee last week, a move that has pushed Okonkwo further down the pecking order.
For the clash against the Bluebirds, Parkinson handed Patterson his full debut, while experienced goalkeeper Danny Ward was named among the substitutes, leaving Okonkwo out of the squad entirely.
In recent days, the Hale End Academy product has been linked with potential moves to Wrexham's Championship rivals, Bolton Wanderers and Charlton Athletic.
Leicester City also explored a deal for the two-cap Nigeria international earlier in the transfer window but ultimately opted to sign former Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy.
Okonkwo is expected to leave Wrexham, either on a permanent transfer or on loan, before the transfer window closes.
The 24-year-old is in the final year of his contract with Wrexham, whom he joined from Arsenal on a permanent deal in the summer of 2024.
He has made 121 appearances in all competitions for the Welsh club, keeping 47 clean sheets.
