Turkish journalist Ali Naci Küçük has revealed that Victor Osimhen’s presence at Galatasaray played a major role in Troy Parrott’s decision to join Real Betis instead of the Turkish champions.
Küçük discussed the transfer of the Republic of Ireland striker on the 343 Digital YouTube channel, where he claimed that Parrott was not willing to move to Galatasaray if the transfer meant becoming Osimhen’s second-choice striker.
According to Küçük, Galatasaray were also prepared to spend around €20 million on Parrott, but the player was determined to join a club where he would have a stronger opportunity to play regularly.
“Troy Parrot's cost was also around 20 million Euros, but the player said, 'I won't be the second-choice player, I won't come behind Osimhen!' and that's why he went to Real Betis,”he said, as quoted by Habersarikirmizi.
Parrott has since completed his move to Real Betis from AZ Alkmaar in a deal worth around €20 million.
The transfer was officially completed on August 20, with the striker signing for the Spanish club after an impressive 2025/26 campaign.
Küçük’s comments therefore place Osimhen at the centre of Parrott’s decision, with the Turkish journalist suggesting that the Nigerian striker’s position as Galatasaray’s leading attacking option influenced the Irishman’s choice to continue his career in Spain.
