'The booking, the penalty' - Lovenkrands highlights Fernandez's shaky display in Rangers win v St. Mirren

Former Rangers striker Peter Lovenkrands has highlighted Emmanuel Fernandez’s booking and the penalty he conceded during Rangers’ 5-1 Scottish League Cup victory over St Mirren at Ibrox.

The Super Eagles defender started at the heart of the Rangers defence as Derek McInnes’ side secured their first win of the season under the manager and progressed to the quarter-finals of the competition.

Fernandez endured a difficult afternoon despite Rangers producing an impressive attacking display.

He was booked in the 20th minute the match before later giving St Mirren an opportunity from the penalty spot after being penalised for a foul inside the box.

St Mirren were unable to take advantage of the opportunity, with Ivor Pandur saving Killian Phillips’ penalty after the kick was retaken.

Lovenkrands acknowledged the number of positive performances from Rangers but singled out Fernandez when assessing the defender’s display.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound after the match, the former Rangers striker said: “There's been a lot of good performances for Rangers, although Fernandez has looked vulnerable, with some sloppy play, the booking, the penalty.”

The remarks follow a challenging opening period for Fernandez and Rangers, with the defender having been part of a side that struggled for consistency before Sunday’s emphatic cup victory.
