Chelsea Goalkeeper Of Nigerian Descent Kelechi Gets England Call-Up
Published: October 30, 2018Promising Chelsea goalkeeper Kelechi Chibueze is set to add to his international caps after he was invited to the England U16 squad by manager Kevin Betsy for the Val-de-Marne Tournament this week.
Chibueze was part of the Chelsea U16 squad that lost to Manchester City in the final of the Premier League International Tournament on October 21.
Born December 2003, he is eligible to turn out for Nigeria's youth teams through his father.
He was a non-playing substitute in the Young Lions opening match of the Val-de-Marne Tournament against hosts France on Tuesday afternoon.
England face Austria (November 1) and Japan (November 3) and Chibueze would be hoping he is picked ahead of Reading goalkeeper Coniah Boyce-Clarke in at least one of the games.
England U16s beat France 3-1 in their opener with Louie Barry (West Brom), Jude Bellingham (Birmingham), Charlie Patino (Arsenal) writing their names on the score-sheet.
