Iwobi Makes Arsenal's Matchday Squad Vs Rennes; Six Nigerians Registered Omitted
Published: March 06, 2019Alex Iwobi is in contention to make his 13th appearance in the Europa League when Arsenal battle Rennes in the round of 16 at Roazhon Park on Thursday evening, starting from 1855 hours.
With manager Unai Emery opting to select only 18 players for the trip to Brittany, it means the Nigeria international will certainly be named in the matchday squad, barring an injury in the pre-match warm-up.
Iwobi will compete with Mesut Ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Aaron Ramsey and teenage striker Eddie Nketiah for one of the spots in attack.
Although the Super Eagles star is searching for his first goal in the Europa League, he has four assists to his name.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, who trained with the first team on Tuesday, was not part of the traveling party to northwest France on Wednesday.
Five other players of Nigerian descent registered for the competition in the shape of Tobi Omole, Tolaji Bola, Joseph Olowu, Bukayo Saka and Xavier Amaechi have not been named in the squad.
