Arsenal First Team Coach Arteta Runs The Rule Over Goalkeeper Okonkwo, Fullback Oyegoke
Published: September 04, 2020It has come to light that Arsenal first team coach Mikel Arteta ran the rule over at least four players of Nigerian descent during Friday's training session at London Colney, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Apart from Tolaji Bola and James Olayinka, it is confirmed that goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo and fullback Daniel Oyegoke also attended the training session.
Okonkwo has returned to full fitness after missing the entirety of last season due to an undisclosed injury.
Despite a lengthy spell on the sidelines, the Gunners still hold him in high regard and the club offering him a fresh three-year deal proves that fact.
Bernd Leno, Emiliano Martínez and Matt Macey are currently ahead of Okonkwo in Arteta's pecking order of goalkeepers.
The Anglo-Nigerian glovesman will look back to the 2018-2019 season with fond memories after earning rave reviews for keeping three clean sheets in his four appearances in the Premier League 2 and traveling with the first team to Italy for a Europa League fixture vs Napoli.
As for Oyegoke, he made his non-competitive debut for the Gunners in their 4-1 win against MK Dons on Tuesday, August 25.
