League One Club Accrington Stanley On Brink Of Deal For Chelsea Young Star Uwakwe
Published: September 07, 2020EFL League One club Accrington Stanley are on the brink of announcing the signing of Nigerian midfielder Tariq Uwakwe, according to reports.
Goal.com's Chelsea reporter Nizaar Kinsella says that Uwakwe is set to join Accrington Stanley on loan today and an official announcement is imminent.
The versatile midfielder was linked with a transfer to the Championship in the January transfer window but Chelsea eventually decided it was best for him to continue his development at Stamford Bridge.
Aged 20, Uwakwe has yet to make his competitive debut for Chelsea's first team or be included in a matchday squad and is desperate for first team minutes.
He signed a new three-year deal with The Blues ahead of the 2019-2020 season and trained with the first team last year.
Last season, Uwakwe helped Chelsea win the Premier League 2 Division 1, making 11 appearances in total and scoring one goal.
He has played non-binding games for England U18, U19 and U20 national teams.
