Ex-Tottenham Trainee Madueke On Target As PSV Beat Okoye's Sparta Rotterdam In 8-Goal Thriller
Published: January 16, 2021In a goal feast at the Sparta-Stadion Het Kasteel (Rotterdam) on Saturday evening, PSV Eindhoven defeated Sparta Rotterdam 5-3 in an Eredivisie clash.
Now established as Sparta's first choice goalkeeper, Super Eagles rising star Maduka Okoye started in goal for the eleventh game in a row.
Former Tottenham Hotspur trainee Nonso Madueke, still only 18, continues to make waves with another impressive performance for PSV, taking his goal involvement for the season to 14 (7 goals, 7 assists) from 22 matches in all competitions thanks to his goal early in the second half.
Brian Smeets opened the scoring for the home team inside five minutes but it was level at the break with Mauro Junior heading home an equaliser at minute 24.
PSV dominated the first half and would have scored more goals if not for the alertness of Okoye, who had kept four clean sheets in ten matches before this evening's fixture.
Donyell Malen, Madueke, Philipp Max got on the scoresheet in the 47th, 49th and 71st minute respectivelyto put PSV 4-1 up before Gravenberch and Reda Kharchouch scored to reduce the deficit, Malen wrapped up the scoring in stoppage time.
Madueke, who missed the 3-1 loss to AZ due to a knock, was replaced with nine minutes remaining.
