Watford's Ekong, Fulham's Aina, West Brom's Ajayi arrive at Super Eagles camp for AFCONQ
Published: March 21, 2021Four players named in the Super Eagles squad for their 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifying matches against the Republic of Benin and Lesotho have arrived at the national team camp in Lagos.
The Nigeria Football Federation have officially confirmed that Watford center back William Troost-Ekong, Fulham right-back Ola Aina and West Brom defender Semi Ajayi have reported for international duty.
The fourth player to show up in camp is ex- Leicester City winger Ahmed Musa who is currently unemployed after a proposed move to West Brom fell through last month.
Aina and Troost-Ekong were in action for their clubs on Friday and Saturday respectively, and Ajayi has been inactive for just over one month, with his last appearance coming against Burnley on February 20.
Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr has been hit by withdrawals ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers as French-based duo Moses Simon and Samuel Kalu, and Spanish-based Kenneth Omeruo and Umar Sadiq have been blocked from traveling to link up with the squad due to COVID-19 concerns.
Three-time African champions Nigeria will book their ticket to the tournament in Cameroon if they beat Benin next weekend.
