Galatasaray's Etebo assures Super Eagles fans mistake against Sierra Leone won' be repeated
Published: March 23, 2021Galatasaray midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo has assured Super Eagles fans that the mistake against Sierra Leone on matchday three at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium won't be repeated when they face the Republic of Benin this coming Saturday.
Last November, the Super Eagles were coasting to
victory having scored four goals with less than thirty minutes played - the highest number of goals they have netted in a single half under Gernot Rohr - but let
their healthy lead slip away as Kwame Quee pulled a goal just before
half time, before goals from Alhaji Kamara and Mustapha Bundu in the
second half.
Going into the game against the Republic of Benin, Stoke City loanee Etebo knows that a win would see the Super Eagles qualify for next year's Africa Cup of Nations with a game to spare.
"I can assure you guys that it is not going to repeat itself again because it's like a lesson learnt but the most important thing is this game coming up on Saturday," Etebo said to reporters, including Channels TV.
"It's just for us to get a win and then we can come back home to celebrate that we've qualified already."
"It's just for us to get a win and then we can come back home to celebrate that we've qualified already."
It's a no-brainer that Wilfred Ndidi is assured a spot in the starting XI against the Republic of Benin, meaning Etebo is challenging Rangers' Joe Aribo and Omonia Nicosa's Abdullahi Shehu to partner the Leicester City ace in central midfield.
