Ten Hag runs the rule over talented Nigerian defensive midfielder final workout before trip to Cyprus
Published: October 05, 2022Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag promoted Nigeria-eligible defensive midfielder Maximilian Oyedele to first team training on Wednesday, informs the official website of the Red Devils.
The Dutch football tactician ran the rule over the talented defensive-minded youngster at Carrington this morning as the squad trained in front of the media before their trip to Cyprus this afternoon for their UEFA Europa League clash against Francis Uzoho's Omonia Nicosia.
It is thought that Ten Hag invited Oyedele to train with the first team to make up the numbers, with several academy players featuring for the U21s last night in a Papa John's Trophy match against League Two opponents Barrow.
That said, the Anglo-Polish-Nigerian midfielder is eligible to be registered on Manchester United's Europa League roster List B as he has played non-stop at the Red Devils for more than two years and was born after January 1, 2001.
Oyedele, a member of Manchester United's FA Youth Cup-winning squad in 2022, signed his first professional contract in the summer and has yet to make his senior debut.
Born in Manchester, the 17-year-old became provisionally cap-tied to Poland, where his mother originally hails from, last month when he played the last seventeen minutes of a European U19 Championship qualifier against Bosnia.
This season, Oyedele has made appearances for Manchester United in the U18 Premier League, Premier League 2 and Papa John's Trophy.
