'Can only be released from May 15' - Bosso confirms Inter Milan whizkid off Flying Eagles squad
Published: May 04, 2023
In a detailed interview with Nigerian reporters in Abuja on Wednesday, Flying Eagles coach Ladan Bosso has explained why Inter Milan wonderkid Ebenezer Akinsanmiro will not be heading to Argentina with the national team.
As reported by allnigeriasoccer.com six days ago, Inter Milan reached an agreement with the Nigerian Federation that would have seen the midfielder join the team at around the same period they were supposed to travel for the World Cup.
Bosso has been bitten before and is careful not to repeat the same mistake, hence, has decided to omit Akinsanmiro from the final 21-man squad for the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup.
And to drive his point home, the Flying Eagles boss cited KAA Gent forward Ahmed Abdullahi who skipped the pe-AFCON training camp in Abuja and failed to live up to expectations during the tournament in Egypt.
In addition to being sent off in the Flying Eagles' opener against Senegal after coming off the bench, Abdullahi missed a penalty that would have taken the game to extra time if he had scored in the closing minutes of the semifinal loss to Gambia.
"He (Abdullahi) was one of the disappointments that we faced and I don't want to repeat such mistakes because every day we are on a learning process," Bosso explained.
"Ahmed was the only player that joined us over there and from the look of things his fitness level was very, very low compared to the players we took and that was the genesis of his red card in the first match.
"And of course from the players that we have invited Ebenezer is a good player, could have been important to us but his release will be on the 15th.
"The club said they can only release him from the 15th and that is not good for us, so we have to keep him aside."
Ladan Bosso has also shown the door to Istanbulspor central defender Michael Ologo, while allnigeriasoccer.com has extensively and exclusively reported that Arsenal winger Joel Ideho risks being cut from the squad following his late arrival to the training camp in Abuja.
