Nwaneri battles Jesus, Xhaka, Odegaard, 5 others for Arsenal Goal of the Month
Published: May 10, 2023
Talented attacking midfielder of Nigerian descent Ethan Nwaneri is a contender for Arsenal's Goal of the Month award for April 2023.
The England U17 international has been nominated for his first goal against Aston Villa in an U18 Premier League match on April 29.
Nwaneri squeezed in an equaliser in the 75th minute against Aston Villa after a mazy dribble, and netted the winner in the 86th minute as the Gunners U18s came from behind to claim a win.
The Anglo-Nigerian, who turned 16 in March, tallied eight goals in all competitions for Arsenal youth teams this season, including four in the U18 Premier League, two in the U18 Premier League Cup and two in the FA Youth Cup.
Also nominated for Arsenal's Goal of the Month for April are first team stars Gabriel Jesus, Granit Xhaka and Martin Odegaard.
Nwaneri faces further competition for the award from Katie McCabe, Michal Rosiak, Amario Cozier-Duberry, Rafaelle and Stina Blackstenius.
Nwaneri became the youngest player in Premier League history aged 15 years and 181 days when he came off the bench to replace Fabio Vieira in Arsenal's 3-0 road win over Brentford on September 18, 2022.
The Hale End Academy product is now eligible to sign a scholarship with Arsenal.
